In the year 2003, the Motorsports Division of PROTON, PROTON R3 started its functioning in Shah Alam. PROTON R3 is considered among the highest-performance vehicles. It mainly focuses on the research, production, & development of rally & race cars, R3 parts & accessories, and the limited supply of R3 road cars.
It is comprised of a team from several backgrounds including product development, engineering, public relations, and sales & marketing. Our passion is the driving force that binds the team for motorsports and cars following our motto i.e. “Redefining the Limits”.
PROTON R3 team has participated in numerous competitions and consequently, has won several events with many accolades. It focuses mainly on Malaysian National Championship which is, “Malaysian Rally Championship”, “Malaysia Championship Series” & “Sepang 1000KM Race”.

JAMES VEERAPEN: (Selangor)
James is a Business Owner. Furthermore, he is:
- The 2nd Champion of Malaysian Rally Championship 2011
- Junior Champion of Malaysian Rally Championship 2011
- Overall 5th in the Malaysian Rally Championship in 2011
- P10 & P11 of Malaysian Rally Championship in 2011
- 3rd of FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship (Junior Cup) in 2012

Syafiq Ali: (Johor Bahru)
Syafiq Ali belongs to the Proton R3 Race Team. He is a business owner. Furthermore, he is:

Admi Shahrul is a professional (advanced) driving instructor in the Pole Position Racing School. Furthermore, he is:

Fariqe Hairuman: (Johor Bahru)
Fariqe Hairuman belongs to the PROTON R3 Race Team. He is a Professional GT & also a touring car driver. Furthermore, he is:

- Endurance Series Winner of Super Taikyu (Japan) in 2008
- Car Champion of Asia Touring in 2007

Karamjit Singh: (Selangor)
Karamjit Singh is from Kuala Lampur and belongs to PROTON R3 Race Team. Furthermore, he is:

- 2WD – Champion of FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship in the year 2011-2012
- The Champion of FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004
- The Rally Driver & 11th times Malaysian National Champion
- Champion in the Malaysian MME Endurance Circuit Race in 2000
